“A Friend, One” by Daniel Woody

a friend

apollo he becomes
an old friend the moment we meet
yesterday yesterday he says i am
apollo this one he speaks
in poems i want to write
he peeks in poems
but that’s me i guess
i mean you think apollo means
more than he realizes he means
but you realize in fact he knew all
along there was nothing
to be realized apollo
he is a friend
of a friend or a friend
to friends this is a way
of being i respect if i write
about him will you become
at least for a while my friend
that is our friend apollo

This is the first in a series of untitled “Friend poems” by Daniel Woody from a manuscript entitled bless us (who have chosen soul).
