Virginia Woolf by Susie Gharib

Your agony is flowing
in my veins,
the accumulating residue
of thousands of decades,
of women entrapped
within allotted spheres.

In the name of protection,
you were banished away
from the stimulus of London
which had allayed
that innermost loneliness
of the emancipated.

A new type of attic
engulfed your fragile frame,
so every woman
is made to believe
that madness is the outcome
of intellectual freedom.
