No cloud was in the sky & no birds flying
overhead, there are no birds to fly
You first become aware & alert,
overcome denial. His contemptuous chortles
echo in the tones of a shark. His frumious footfalls
approach & you glimpse the vorpal metal in his hand
appearing smaller than its actual size.
The stuck voice in your throat quivers, timid & tremulous.
Manxome foe with eyes of flame lurks in wait
& appearing much further away than he actually is,
galumphing past the lockers, like the dog or the cat,
hunting for a rat. You think
I know who I was when I got up this morning,
but I think I must have been changed several times since.
You learn to break a window from the top corner
as opposed to the center, to expertly create movement,
distance and disturbance, you prop up
mimsy barricades while the slithy doorknob
equivocates it is impassible; nothing is impossible.
You talk of many things like why the sea is boiling hot &
whether pigs have wings when seconds count.
Information needs to be in clear, plain language.
You were curiouser it was in those moments,
so might just as well say that I see what I eat
is the same thing as I eat what I see.
Evacuation appears nearer than it actually is
You think, I must be mad or I wouldn’t have come here,
which is true, or maybe just an altered perception
of time, as it seems almost brillig even though
you know it’s much earlier in the day. You look up
in the midst of uffish thought when you hear
a barbarous walrus say, I weep for you.
I deeply sympathize, which is most likely
just zoopsia settling in, but still you wonder how
in our country, we could ever get through the rabbit
hole if we only run very fast for a long time
as we’ve been doing.
