The Spy Game by Ivana Mestrovic

He used to draw me maps.
He liked a black felt tip
to make his mark

a heavy line but flexible
and when new satisfyingly
saturated with ink.

I became an expert at decoding
topography finding the links between
points where we rendezvoused—

only later understanding
that that he gave me a map
because I was traveling alone.
