I Try Not to Grow Old by Margaret R. Sáraco

There are only a few wrinkles
but hair is graying and thinning,
dyed every couple of months
leaves a Cruella de Vil
patch of gray
racing stripe
even my eyebrows are turning white
plucking them increases anxiety.
And that’s just my hair.

How much is too much?
I have more of this to look forward to.
Joint aches, discussing poor health
with friends.
Hey, I already survived cancer
but do not wish to tempt fate
I will erase that line if need be

Comfort me,
I see the road is narrowing.
